2. TG Champion Tournament Bristle Dartboard
Let’s face it, the Winmau Blade 5 and most other dart boards aren’t cheap. However, if you’ve never played darts before and want to give it your best shot, the TG Champion is a lot less expensive and good enough for a beginner.
It’s less than half the price and advertised as a “tournament” dart board, which I think is a stretch, but it’s still better than 95% of what you’ll find at your local Walmart or even on Amazon.
So, why has it been dubbed a tournament dart board? Because it could theoretically be used as such. It is exactly 18″ in diameter and has a 1.75″ wide frame, which meets the tournament size requirements. It also has an extra slim spider wire and a staple-free bullseye, as do most tourney options, to prevent bounce-outs. Nothing is more aggravating than slamming your dart into the wires and having it bounce away.
It’s made of self-healing sisal fibres, which makes it a bristle dartboard. This means that with moderate use, the board will last a couple of years; unlike cork or wood boards, which would be full of holes by then, these will close up as the fibres self-heal.
Another advantage is that you can use both steel and soft tip darts on this. People have also reported using it for knife throwing, but we don’t recommend it because the board’s healing capabilities aren’t great and you’ll quickly damage it.
When reading online reviews, you’ll notice that some people complain about the TG Champion’s bullseye being too difficult to hit, but this is not the case. It’s very likely that people are using low-cost plastic darts that aren’t designed for bristle boards and then blaming the board.

The Shot King bristle board serves as the anchor for this, and while it is of good quality, you will again encounter the issue of the spider being too thick, which encourages bounce outs.
The Hudson Sisal might be the way to go if you’re looking to train yourself to only aim for the centre of a scoring section and don’t mind a lot of frustration, but it will still be annoying.

On the right flap, there is a cricket scoring table, which is a nice touch and useful. Furthermore, the dart storage spots in the main portion of it were fantastic – we were able to fit 32 different pairs of darts in there, so you won’t have to worry about compatibility.
The darts included in the set are of much higher quality than I’ve come to expect from starter sets. It’s not great, but it’ll do for the average player. If I were serious about darts, I wouldn’t keep them, but if I just want to play with my friends, they’re fine.
It’s almost preferable to buy the cabinet first, then upgrade the dart board.
